This is how it begins –

we travel to Shilitto wood

two women and a dog in a Vauxhall Astra.

The road is long and the day is short

and we’ve both forgotten our cameras.

We walk to the stone and it’s –

nestled in a copse of beech

feet moated in peat-rich water,

an idle knee high skirt

of grass. Invited light dapples

shade into a convergence of
